The only qualification for Mensa membership is a score in the top 2% of the general
population on a standardized intelligence test.
Scores will be accepted by one of two means:
|
Mensa accepts scores from approximately 200 different tests.
Applicants may present evidence of a score
in the top 2% of the population on a supervised, standardized intelligence test.
Tests given by an institution/agency/clinic must include the full name of the test, the score, and
percentile rank. This documentation must be on institution/agency/clinic letterhead and signed by the
psychologist responsible for the testing, along with the psychologist's license/certification number
issued by the state in which the psychologist practices. Evidence from a school transcript must be a school
document with a seal. An armed forces record must be a notarized copy.
All prior evidence will be appraised individually, and Mensa reserves the right to make the final
determination of the acceptability of the test. The non-refundable, one-time evaluation fee is $25.

| The Mensa Admissions Test |
| Supervised by a certified Mensa proctor, this battery of two tests is offered at varying times by our local
group. The Mensa Admissions Test battery, which takes approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete, is composed of two
tests featuring questions involving logic and deductive reasoning. These tests are supervised by a certified
Mensa proctor. An applicant who scores at or above the 98th percentile on one of the two tests qualifies for
membership. Approximately 60 percent of those who take the Mensa Admissions Test prove to be eligible for
membership. The test fee is $30 (U.S.). American Mensa does not test individuals 13 years of age and younger;
however, they may submit prior evidence for membership. Mensa also offers a battery of culture-fair, non-language
tests. Northern New Jersey Mensa hosts several test sessions throughout the year.
To help you prepare for the Mensa Admissions Test, you may wish to take the Mensa Home Test. This self-administered
test costs $18 (U.S.) and will be scored by American Mensa's National Office.
